Faculty development programs (FDPs) have proven to be successful for improving teaching skills in professional education. It has been long believed that the most important resource that any institution of higher education has is its faculty members who teach knowledge and skills to students. Faculty vitality is the main ingredient to enhance professional education and competence. In order to deal with the rapid changes and shifting paradigms in technical education and to enrich the faculty vitality in key domains of teaching, assessing, research, and professionalism a Faculty Development Programme titled“Importance of Pedagogy in Teaching” was organized for the delegatesof M.E.T Group of Institutions on 24thSeptember 2021.
The inaugural function was started with a ThamizhThaaiVaazhthu at 10:00 a.m. The Principal,Dr.P.SenthilKumar presided over the function; Prof.J.Aloysius welcomed the guest of the day. The resource person of the day was Dr.S.Felicia Gladys, M.A., M.Phil.,Ph.D.,Head & Associate Professor (Department of English and Research Center) Sarah Tucker College, Tirunelveli.
The FDP started with the philosophy of teaching and the role of a teacher. She made a deliberation on effective classroom management. She drew attention of delegates to the fact that teacher is no more a sage on the stage and we need to transform our earning ability to learning agility to serve as true educators and explained various techniques for effective class management.She enlightened with specific differences in education at school and professional level.
She highlighted the productive role of a mentor and insisted to develop mature sense of identity.Finally, Madam stressed upon the need and technique to understand student’s psychology for effective learning. All the faculties participated very enthusiastically and learned many new techniques which can be implemented to enhance teaching process. The outcome of the FDP was more positive, the topics selected for FDP were extremely important in academic career, all the information and contents were very good and helpful to improve the teaching quality; it was an awesome programme, useful in professional career towards teaching. The positive feedback by faculties actually served the purpose of this faculty development program.
